Alstroemeria survives in troubled times

EA energy crisis

Last fall, we shared with you our concerns about energy prices. As growers of Alstroemeria, we faced the most difficult choice ever: will our plants hibernate or not?

We would like to remain critical of the quality of the flowers we supply, but will the additional costs of stoking and lighting outweigh the yields? Each grower, based on their energy positions and capabilities, has searched for the best way to still be able to continue producing Alstroemeria. Today we want to update you on the progress of the past few months and our expectation for the coming period.

Beautiful fall weather and well-stocked gas supplies

We were very lucky with the weather in the fall: into November we counted many more sunshine hours than usual. That ensured that we could deliver our normal productions and sometimes even more than that for a long time. In December we had a week of winter weather, which translated directly into significantly higher energy prices. Fortunately, that was only short-lived. The mild winter we are experiencing across Europe so far and the well-stocked gas reserves mean that although energy prices are high, they are not as high as anticipated.

Sustainably grown flower

Alstroemeria is a perennial plant that originated in the Andes Mountains in South America. Alstroemeria does not need to be grown very hot. At an average greenhouse temperature of 16 to 18 degrees and a slightly shorter day length, the plants still produce good quality flowers. Most growers have chosen to continue producing in this way as "normal" as possible. In addition, the acreage of Alstroemeria abroad is growing. Overall, there has been a 6% contraction in units over the past period. This is not too bad considering the circumstances.

Alstroemeria, a solid base for beauty

For the next few months, we expect that the supply will no longer decrease and that we will soon begin to increase in supply again. With this we would like to demonstrate our reliability. Alstroemeria is always there, shows its color on the vase even now and always comes open - Every Season. Our Alstroemeria for every bouquet, every moment, every winter is a solid base of your supply.
