Product Day Alstroemeria: 100% vote in favor

On Thursday, September 15, the Alstroemeria Product Day was held at The Green House at Floriade Expo 2022 in Almere. The vote for the joint promotion of Alstroemeria, for the next five years, was the focus of this meeting. The entire trade group was present in large numbers: growers, breeders, auctioneers and customers. The promotion plan was presented to them and followed up with a short brainstorm on how to involve trading houses in the promotion. After this, it was time to vote. The vote yielded a historic score of "100% in favor. Never before did all those present (94% of the turnover) vote in favor of collecting 0.1% over the turnover at Royal FloraHolland for joint promotion of the Alstroemeria.

A flower with meaning and story

The Alstroemeria is a flower with meaning and story, which can best be shared and told together. For this reason, the promotion committee for the Alstroemeria and Florinca, consisting of growers and breeders, has been active with various campaigns for more than 20 years. The aim of this joint promotion is to contribute positively to the visibility and name recognition of the Alstroemeria, to increase knowledge about the Alstroemeria among target groups and to improve its image.

Three years ago, the concept "every Alstroemeria" was conceived giving charge to the core message "A Solid Base For Beauty. Using this creative concept, it is made clear that the Alstroemeria is a flower for every Moment, every Day, every Home and every Season.

Continuously visible among the target audience

In a long chain it is difficult to reach the consumer, ultimately it is the florist who conveys the message to the consumer. This is why the committee believes it is important to provide florists with plenty of knowledge and inspiration about the sustainable flower. Full-service marketing agency OBM from Nieuw-Vennep conducted a survey among Dutch florists in May. This made it clear what information florists need and what action needs to be taken. Together with OBM, the communication to the target groups will be fleshed out. In 2022 and 2023 the focus is on the Dutch florist. We ensure continuous visibility with information and inspiration through the social media channels Facebook and Instagram. During seasonal changes, the website will be provided with seasonal inspiration and a newsletter will be sent. In addition to this structural communication, various actions are devised and deployed to create an engaged target group, such as the action 'Win a photo shoot' for florists or flower cards as a give-away for trading houses.

Available year round, even this winter

Karolien Tesselaar, chairman of the promotion committee looks back on the product day: 'Despite the difficult time we are in, the mood was high. Production is going down but we are just there this winter with our surprising flower. It was very pleasant to come up with ideas together with customers to share more information about the Alstroemeria. It speaks of trust in each other that we achieved a 100% score on the ballot. I am really enormously pleased with that and is also a real boost for the future.'

We invested in LED lighting and chose to hang our LED lighting as close as possible to the plant by means of a hoisting installation. This results in the highest possible light level for the plant with the least possible energy consumption.
